BIRTH AND POSTPARTUM DOULAS
Chelsea began attending births as a doula before her first son was born in 1993, it was an apprenticeship with a local homebirth midwife for a year that deepened and transformed the way she attends births. Chelsea completed an intensive midwifery internship at a free-standing birth center in El Paso, Texas in 2002. While there, she participated in 100 births, catching 48 babies herself and grounding herself in the perfect design of natural birth. Currently, Chelsea teaches birth classes at the NEST, maintains a private doula practice, assists a home birth midwife, and is enrolled in midwifery school.
Chelsea wants every mother she works with to feel as if she had the best birth experience possible. She wants birthing families to feel educated, supported and empowered. Birth is an everyday miracle! Chelsea wants you to rejoice in your strength and celebrate your baby’s arrival as the most important day of your life!

Birth Doula and Birth Photographer
Emily is a birth doula and the creator of Sierra Earthside servicing Nevada and Placer counties. Emily discovered her passion for helping birthing people and babies after witnessing her sisters on their journeys of pregnancy and transitions into motherhood. The close relationship Emily has with them allowed her to share the experience of their excitement, fears, pains, and overwhelming joy. It was through this involvement that Emily realized that the dedication to doula and birth services was her calling.
Emily created Sierra Earthside to offer expecting parents non-judgemental support in all of their birthing decisions. She assists them, their partner, and their support team before, after, and during labor with an understanding of birth physiology, partner involvement, pain coping techniques, emotional support, communication, and relaxation practices.
Each birth is a truly unique experience. Emily is continually in awe of the birth process, the enduring strength of all birthing people, and the power of the birth experience.
Through Sierra Earthside She also offers her 15 years of photography experience to birth, maternity, labor, and newborn photography.

Marissa supports parents from pregnancy to parenthood as a Doula, Childbirth Educator and Prenatal/Postnatal Yoga instructor. Her journey as a birth supporter began 10 years ago by becoming a Birthing From Within mentor and has been enhancing the lives of birthing families ever since. Marissa is very passionate about creating safe spaces for parents to awaken and empower themselves through the portals of the childbearing year. She believes the transformation available during that time happens within a container of being held by a mentor.
Marissa’s approach to being a Doula is to love and support people unconditionally and to empower them with information, practices, and processes. She believes if birthing people received the care and support they deserve, the world would be a happier, healthier place.
My roots are in the red dirt and wild prairies of Oklahoma, but a desire to begin anew brought me west to San Francisco in 2009. Since then, I have been collaborating with families in multiple capacities—as a caregiver to children, a bridge builder, a space holder, a cheerleader, and a peacekeeper. In late 2020 I moved to Grass Valley, and am now offering postpartum support to families in Sacramento and throughout Nevada County.
Prior to training as a doula, I worked as a nanny and household assistant for over ten years. I have experienced firsthand the challenges that growing families face. My present work is an embodiment of my passion to support all kinds of families who are on the spectrum of all reproductive experiences with an emphasis on intuitive healing and personal empowerment.
In my spare time I enjoy hanging out with my three cats and doing reproductive justice organizing with The Bay Area Doula Project.
Birth and Postpartum Doula - SHE HAS MOVED TO OREGON
My interest in birth work began a few months after I had my daughter. I was a young mom suffering from postpartum depression and I was overwhelmed with my new role as a mother. I did not have a doula, but I really wish I had. I soon began speaking to new moms through social media and sharing tips and information that I had researched on my own. And that’s when I realized I wanted to do more, I wanted to help give families the support and care that I desired and needed during birth and postpartum. Doing this work has been a process of affirmation for myself.
My services provide support to all those giving birth and welcoming new life into their families. I help you plan for your birth and postpartum and I work to ensure that you have an empowered birthing experience. I can help you deliver in a hospital, at home or in a birthing center, alongside your care provider. I can also check in on you and your family those first 6 weeks postpartum to provide support and guidance where you need it.
