** This class is included in our Embracing Birth childbirth series - no need to book it separately if you're already registered for the entire series. This is offered as a stand alone class as well. All are welcome!** Learning to care for your newborn is just as essential as planning for your birth. This class is designed to help you set realistic expectations for yourselves and your baby during the postpartum period, suggest steps you can take now to support yourselves and provide you with information on a range of topics so you can make informed decision along the way. We'll cover everything from newborn basics including bathing and diapering, newborn sleep and baby wearing. Our newly expanded course also focuses on early parenting with suggestions for the foundations of co-parenting, TOPICS COVERED: + defining the fourth trimester + setting realistic expectations for yourselves and your baby + newborn care: babywearing, skin to skin, soothing/co-regulation and communication + infant sleep: expectations for biologically normal behavior in the first 6 months + feeding: chest/breastfeeding, bottle feeding, pumping + early parenting: finding your perspective, community and voice as a parent + planning for a peaceful postpartum by taking steps during pregnancy This class is taught by Katie DaMota, Lactation Consultant. Katie has worked with new families since the 90's as a caregiver, lactation consultant, postpartum doula and early parenting educator. She's passionate about creating accessible, current parenting resources and support for all families. She offers support options for families from pregnancy through toddlerhood. Together with our childbirth classes, our goal is to provide the most comprehensive series from pregnancy through the first 3 months. Everyone is welcome regardless of your childbirth class option or plans. Many families opt to take this class if they're planning a c-section or chose a birth prep class that didn't provide detailed postpartum information. If you cannot make the live class or you don't have access to Zoom, a recorded class is available. $50 payment for this class will be collected after you register and we have reached a minimum number of guests. 15% Discount will be applied if you're also enrolled in Nourishing Baby
