Service Description
Meltdowns aka 'tantrums' are in essence a very primal form of communication. They're expressing an unmet need (sometimes more than one) along with some big feelings. Our job as caregivers is to keep our own calm in order to help an upset child regulate. We'll discuss some common scenarios for the Terrific Twos (toddlers are my favorite people) and how we can both get ahead of the emotions by setting realistic expectations and meeting their needs but also help them learn the very initial steps toward emotional intelligence. This is a really BIG conversation! Topics Covered: Origins of meltdowns (even seemingly silly ones) Decoding behavior with curiosity The many needs of toddlers and also meeting them Steps for supporting emotional intelligence/development Holding space for big emotions and providing lifelong tools for processing feelings The benefits of a Calm Corner and the Mind Jar Why not 'time out' and instead 'time in' to support resilience Our weekend edition is available as a single class, a monthly subscription or as a shortened, recorded class. Weekly and monthly conversations are led by Katie DaMota, MAS, who has been talking with and listening to babies and toddlers since the 90's. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience along with an open mind. "There is no one, right, best way to parent. Parenting is an ongoing practice in listening to your own compass and following your child's lead with ongoing invitations for growth." Questions welcome!
