Service Description
Caregiving provides many moments where we have the opportunity to help children tune into their own body autonomy and awareness to develop consent skills from the start. This might be a new concept to consider since many of us think about introducing consent in puberty. Unfortunately by the time children are teenagers they already have an elaborate internal construct of what consent is which is built, primarily on their experiences in early childhood. It's essential to begin these conversations early and often with the intention of raising children to honor their bodies, respect others and understand boundaries. We offer this class in the youngest years to allow caregivers time to integrate language, mind set and practices by the time children reach toddlerhood. Topics covered: Discussing and labeling genitals without fear and secrecy Supporting getting dressed, pottying, and eating while still honoring consent The importance of receiving and giving authentic “yes” and “no” Honoring intuitive eating habits Rough play as opportunity for consent skills Establishing your child's safety network (i.e. inviting grandparents to your team) Book list to begin reading with babies This topic is vast and will continue to evolve as your child grows. We hope this is an informative introduction! Our weekend edition is available as a single class, a monthly subscription or as a shortened, recorded class. Questions welcome!
